SWEET HOUR OF PRAYER
The Disciplesâ Prayer⌠âThey all met continually for prayer. âActs 1:14
Prayer was a huge part of the early disciples becoming âThe Word made fleshâ. The disciples prayed with intensity and persistence, they understood the reality of prayer, the answers were coming, even though there could be some delays along the way.
As believers here at Downtown Church we also have opportunities to unite together in prayer. One weekly meeting is at 10:00 to 11:00 AM on Thursdays in the Prayer Room (#112). We call it âThe Sweet Hour of Prayerâ.
Even if you cannot join us in person weekly, you can pray from where God has you working and serving. If you have requests on your heart please let me know and we will pray knowing you are also praying too. As believers we may also unite as one in presenting our requests, even though we cannot be together in one place. Just as the disciples did, we can claim the promise that we, too, will be filled with the Holy Spirit. (John 16:7).

DOWNTOWN CHURCH OF CHRIST Emphasizes PRAYER
The Bible and PrayerâŚ
Most people assume that the Bible mentions prayer, even teaches about prayer. But many donât realize how often the Scriptures deal with this magnificent subject.
Dr. Herbert Lockyerâs book, âAll the Prayers of the Bible,â says there are 650 prayers in the Bible and 450 recorded answers. In addition to that, the Bible teaches on prayer and mentions it in several locations; the total comes to about 850 references to prayer in Scripture.
The gospel accounts mention Jesusâ prayer life 15 times; Jesus taught at least10 major lessons on prayer during his earthly ministry.
The book of Acts mentions prayer 39 times in only 28 chapters.
The apostle Paul started each of his major letters to the churches with a section on prayer.
